Save The Dates

23 Apr

I am able to check off a major task on my wedding planning to-do list – designing, printing, addressing and mailing off the Save the Dates. Special thanks to my friends, the extremely talented photographer Kasey Spain and to the beautifully creative  graphic designer Danielle Juneau who designed the layout, text and look of the postcard. I could not have had such beautiful postcards to mail out if it wasn’t for them. Many thanks go out to these two special ladies!

Photos were taken in Central Park during one of the most beautiful times of the year, Fall. Leaves were incredible tones of yellow, red and orange it is near impossible to put into words.

Save the Dates to me are a funny/odd item to create. This was one aspect of the wedding I didn’t already have planned out in my mind. Picking the right photo that doesn’t look cheesy to send out to your 100+ guests is tough. But you can always go the route of just beautifully designed copy with no photo.

St. Joseph Abbey is Stunning and a Dream

Before I know it, our wedding will be here. Less than 9 months to go and I have made a ton of progress. Honestly, planning this wedding has been pretty easy… so far.

Church… check! St. Joseph Abbey in Covington, LA is a 120-year-old monastery that I always dreamed of getting married in. I received the official signed letter from the Abbot this week, confirming our wedding for Saturday, October 20th, 2012.

Reception… check! The Lake House in Mandeville, LA will be where we will party with friends and family all night long. It sits right on the lakefront in Mandeville, so we will be able to see the sun set. It’s a two-story building with a large outside space and balcony, very New Orleans.

Band… check! We booked the Neighborhood Stars. A Louisiana local band that would always play at restaurants after football games. The 1980s and 1990s R&B and Soul Artists influenced band plays anything from Boogie Shoes to Zydeco. I am thrilled we were able to book them!

Photographer… check! I booked a husband and wife team from Alabama to take the photos at my wedding. Posh Images photos are always stunning and after personally speaking with Amy, I know it will be a wonderful experience.

Inspiration for Bridesmaid Dresses

Wedding Dress… check! I’m not sharing any details on this one.

Bridesmaids Dresses… check! I am doing something a little less traditional here. I am letting my bridesmaids pick their own dresses. As long at they are a shade of tan/taupe with some sort of strap, they can wear it!

Rehearsal Dinner… check! Thanks to my sweet fiance and his great parents who helped conduct the research on this place, we booked the Conti House in the French Quarter. It is a two-story house that we rented out for the Friday night before the wedding. We will have cocktails upstairs and a sit down dinner downstairs.

Photobooth… check! I really wanted a photobooth at our wedding, but wasn’t sure I could find an extra $1,000 in our budget. Thankfully, Scott forwarded me a Groupon for a photobooth in the New Orleans Area. I scooped it up and booked it! I saved 70%! Thanks so much to Mobile Memories Photobooth.

The next big items I am looking to check off my list are the hotel accommodations, limo and shuttle services, save the dates and cake. Fingers crossed everything keeps running smoothly. At this rate, I feel like I could plan weddings for a living!

Largest Selection of Design Templates

It is nice to have the internet these days…  you no longer have to worry about cramming every little detail onto the Save the Dates for your wedding. You can simply put your very own (free) wedding website onto your Save The Dates so your guests can check out accommodations (with maps), special dates and times and they can even suggest music for the reception.

I did a little research to find the best designed custom wedding websites that are free. I cam across two that was impressed with:

1. MyWedding

2. ProjectWedding

Classic Designs and Great Inspiration

I decided to go with MyWedding because they had the largest selection of designs that were broken down by the type of wedding. You can choose from destination, green wedding, inspirational, non-traditional, off-beat bride, outdoors and traditional. There are at least 100 designs, if not more. You can even pick by color theme AND if you fall in love with a specific design you can purchase matching invitations.

I decided to go a little more playful on the design. I used the Bold Stripes template. Check out my wedding website here!

ProjectWedding is a beautiful website that has a lot of additional benefits besides setting up a free website. You can find a ton of inspiration for weddings, from DIY to wedding songs. ProjectWedding’s website templates are more classic than MyWedding, very beautiful and elegant.

So no matter your personality, you are bound to find the perfect wedding website!

Another reason to get a wedding website: guests can RSVP via the website, which is great for the bride on a budget – save on paper and postage!
