“Zou Bisou Bisou”

26 Mar

If you are like me, you were glued to your television last night watching the long-awaited season premiere of Mad Men. The great return of Donald Draper to our television screens and all the drama that goes along with it. And what a sex kitten the new Mrs. Draper is?! Although I think I might still be team Betty – she is the classiest of them all and Megan still seems a bit young for the 40-year-old hottie.

Megan’s hair during the opening show was a glamorous retro style that makes me want to chop off all my hair so I can recreate. Unfortunately, I do not have the guts to do this, so I will be explaining to all you short-haired ladies out there how to recreate the new Mrs. Draper’s style.

Step 1: Apply and volume boosting foam to your roots and throughout hair . Make sure to concentrate at the crown of your head, as you will need to create a lot of lift. Comb through. I recommend using Aquage Uplifting Foam.

Step 2: Apply a styling cream throughout hair. This will help give hair a flexible hold. Try using Bumble & bumble Brilliantine.

Step 3: Blow Dry your front bangs/pieces at your front part. Use a round brush and blow dry it opposite of the side you part. So if you part your hair left to right, blow dry it right to left. This will create extra lift.Note that this retro style needs a side part, so if you currently part your hair down the middle, choose a side to part your hair.

Step 4: Blow Dry rest of your hair using your fingers. Once hair is 70% dry, separate into sections and begin blow drying with a round brush. Once you reach your crown (aka top of your head) began blow drying roots similar to how to blow dried your front bangs/pieces. So blow dry hair opposite of how it naturally sits.

Step 5: Use a 1.5″ to 2″ curling iron to curl ends in a very naturally way. Curl hair underneath for the majority of the hair, but throw in a curl out every now and then to create a natural look. Take the silver clips and roll curled end up once or twice and clip onto hair. Let set until cool

Step 6: Spray a hard hold hairspray to keep hair secure. I recommend TIGI’s Bed Head Hard Hold Hairspray.

Step 7: Sprinkle powder throughout roots and begin the backcomb/teasing process. Tease all hair around the roots. Do this by taking sections starting at your side-part, sprinkle powder behind the section and take the teasing comb and reverse brush hair down the shaft at the roots to create a messy nest. Repeat throughout entire crown. When you return all the pieces to the proper position, you will notice hair is very pieced. Take the back comb and run very lightly over the top of hair to break up these pieces.

Step 8: Spray a little bit of spray wax throughout hair to create a little additional volume and texture. I prefer to use Sally Hershberger Spray Wax. You can even spray a little into the palm of your hand and apply to the front part to secure hair behind your ear.

Step 9: Finish with a veil of hairspray to secure your new retro do!

Don’t be scared to use hair extensions either. If you have finer to normal hair like me, hair extensions are a HUGE help. They not only can add length, but you can get them to just add volume. Check out Jessica Simpson’s 15″ mid-length bump up the volume clip in volumizer for this Megan Draper remake. Clip-ins are cheap, super easy to apply and you can style just like your own hair. You can even have clip-ins dyed to match your exact hair color if needed – just bring to your local stylist!

What about the men in your life? What him to look a little more like Donald Draper or Roger Sterling? Grab him some wet look gel and hand him a comb. Part his hair down the side and brush back the front part of his hair. Super easy just mimic the pictures!

Finally, pair you and your new man’s hairstyles with a retro feel outfit. Try a shift dress for you and a dark grey suit with a black skinny tie for your man. Check out this modern meets retro shift dress by Malene Birger… Yes Please!

I loved the premiere especially when Megan sang 🙂 and I love her hair! When I get my hair cut I’m totally going for it. It’s about her lenght now but I just need it styled and cut better.
