Classics Always Make a Comeback

You know that bottle of gel you bought about 10 years ago that is shoved in the back of a cabinet somewhere… time to pull it out. Gel is making its official comeback.

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, wet look hair was everywhere you turned. BCBG models combined slick with looseness by combing gel through the entire top of the head and letting the ends flow free after curling. Marc by Marc Jacobs models sported slicked back hair into a disheveled ponytail, which was then clipped into a loop with silver Goody Clips (another trend I pointed out here.)

My favorite wet look to walk the runway was at the Proenza Schouler fashion show. Different textures combined messy with chic, for a very feminine and unique look.

I am sure you are thinking, how in the heck am I supposed to create this hair without looking ridiculous? But it isn’t how to mimic the exact hairstyle, but how to take the generally idea and apply it to everyday hair. Try a slicked back ponytail, braid or bun, which would be perfect for day 3 or 4 hair. (Tip: Spray some sea salt wave spray into the tail of your slicked back ponytail – the combo of textures is extremely complimentary).

Did some spring cleaning and tossed out that 80’s bottle of gel? I recommend using Bumble & bumble Gel – the mulch-talented sculpting medium that’s flexible, brushable, never (or stuck in another era). It is a modernized version of a gel that will work with your style, instead of becoming hard. The Bb Gel runs about $25 for 5oz. If you are looking for a cheaper option I suggest Suave Professionals Captivating Curls Spray Gel ($3). It is a very nice, light feel and applies evenly.
