DIY All-Natural Sugar Scrub

23 Jan

I was running low on my favorite sugar scrub, TIGI’s Body by Bed Head Papayarazzi, and unfortunately it is a discontinued formula. While I was out shopping for the perfect replacement scrub I noticed the products were either too harsh of a scrub or just too expensive. So I got the idea to create my own, natural sugar scrub… scary, yes… but easier than you think!

I went down to my local, natural beauty store to find some key ingredients that I know benefit the skin from my pat experience in Product Development. I also grabbed an essential oil, which serves as a fragrance for your homemade scrub.

Make Your Own 100% Natural Sugar Scrub

Ingredients You Will Need:

1. 100% Pure Cane Granulated Sugar – You want the granulated kind because the sugar will be the ingredient that actually scrubs your skin.

2. Grape seed Oil – You can find this at your local grocery store as well. Grape seed Oil is a lighter oil that will leave a thin layer of gloss over the skin. It also is a great moisturizer for the skin. You can use other oils that appeal to you, such as Coconut Oil and even Olive Oil – do some research and see which oil best fits your needs.

3. Grapefruit Essential Oil – The main reason you use an essential oil is for a great smelling product. The Grapefruit fragrance is a sweet, citrus type fragrance that is uplifting, cheerful and purifying

The remaining ingredients are all optional and interchangeable. You can pick an choose different “emotives” for your customized formula.

4. Sweet Almond Oil – It has a luxurious, emollient feel that absorbs into the skin quickly. Almond Oil is a popular massage oil a well. It also smooths and softens the skin to keep your legs touchable. Almond Oil is a good solution to dry skin too, which is perfect for these winter months.

5. Vitamin E – It is an anti-oxidant that protects and repairs your skin. Vitamin E also combats dry skin.

6. Aloe Vera – Skin absorbs Aloe Vera 4x faster than water. Aloe Vera moisturizes and heals skin fast. It contains multiple vitamins, and is all around good, no matter the skin type.

7. Pure Honey– Honey has the ability to absorb and retain moisture, which makes it ideal for skin care. It keeps skin hydrated and fresh, while preventing dryness. Shockingly, there are a lot of beauty products you can make with honey!

Perfect Texture

Basically, you just combine all ingredients. I start with the sugar and the main oil (Grape Seed Oil) and combine until I get my ideal consistency. I like mine to be a little on the oily side. Then I add a Tablespoon of each emotive product (Sweet Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera & Pure Honey) into the formula. Lastly, I add about 5-10 drops of the essential oil – just keep smelling your product after adding a few drops and stop when you think the fragrance is perfect.

That’s it! You have a Sugar Scrub that is 100% natural and it is customized to your skin issues. Use 1-2 a week for beautifully smooth and radiant skin! Maybe add a twist by using brown sugar with a vanilla essential oil… I bet this will be a favorite!

Gift Tip: Add a little food coloring, put in a decorative jar and slap on a custom label. It will make the perfect gift for any occasion.

Great Gift
